We visited the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area because there are 2 locations where they filmed parts of the Doctor Who episodes - The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon.
The first stop was Glen Canyon Dam. Here you can take a tour of the dam which starts at the Carl Hayden Visitor's Center and takes you out onto the top of the dam. In the Doctor Who episode Rory runs out of door #7 onto the top of the dam. That door is all the way on the other side of the top of the dam and you can not get to it. You can only go as far as door #2. The tour then takes you down to the bottom where you can see the turbines and then back up to the visitor center. The dam tour takes about 45 - 60 min and ends with a short film about the dam. The cost of the Tour was $5/person.
The next stop was Lone Rock Beach ($15 entry fee unless you have a pass.) The filming for Doctor Who was done at the extreme right side of the beach. Unless you have a 4WD vehicle that can easily go through sand, I wouldn't recommend trying to drive to that point. And if you want to walk to it, it's a long way, through sand all the way. If I could have found somebody with one of the many 'dune buggies' I would have gladly paid them to take us to that point and back, but alas, none were in sight so we had to settle for just seeing it from a distance.
The stamps at the Carl Hayden visitor center had the wrong stamp color. It should have been green, but they had brown instead.
